According to Fortinet’s “2022 State of Operational Technology and Cybersecurity Report”<\/a>, 78% of manufacturing companies have been attacked up to three times. It takes an average of 316 days to detect, investigate and remediate security vulnerabilities in manufacturing companies. As a management consultancy for production security<\/strong><\/strong> the Hallbergmoos-based<\/a> company BxC Consulting<\/a> specializes in OT security. The company has already been honored twice as a top consultant at the German SME Summit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

“There are few management consultancies in Germany that specialize in production security. Most of them focus on IT security,” says Co-Founder and Managing Director L\u00e9titia Combes, adding: “In contrast to the IT sector, where security breaches often cause economic damage, human lives can be at stake in the OT sector.” This makes it all the more important that companies like BxC are committed to the security of operational technology (OT). “As a management consultancy, we want to raise awareness of production security and promote it all round,” emphasizes Combes. Clients are happy to draw on BxC’s expertise. The company has clients from the life science, pharmaceutical, alternative and renewable energy, chemical and engineering sectors. A key success factor: BxC sees itself as a mediator between production technology and IT in companies. “IT and production in the same company often don’t speak the same language. It is our job to remove these barriers and bring them down to a common denominator,” explains Combes. <\/p>\n\n

Cyber attacks in production can be life-threatening<\/h2>\n\n

The Internet of Things (IoT) has long since arrived in production in particular: Many of BxC’s customers work with production systems that are interconnected. This results in more vulnerabilities and makes the systems more susceptible to cyber attacks. “A server failure is annoying for IT, but not usually a threat. For production, however, it can be a disaster,” explains Combes. There are also frequent reports in the media about temperature controllers failing in metal production facilities or attacks on production plants in the pharmaceutical industry. Combes: “Especially in the case of vital medicines, the interruption of the supply chain can be life-threatening.” BxC Consulting therefore aims to be a “thinking partner” for its own customers. “We try to proactively prevent attacks, identify gaps in production security and initiate countermeasures to protect our customers and their customers.” But security is not just a technical issue. The “human factor” always plays a role, no matter how automated production is. Combes explains: “Our considerations in OT security always include the human factor. The most secure password doesn’t help if you leave it out in the open.” <\/p>\n\n

Quality instead of quantity<\/h2>\n\n

The human factor also played a major role in the founding of BxC in a different way. The three co-founders L\u00e9titia Combes, Marcel Fischer and Carsten Schwant already knew each other from a previous job at a large management consultancy. During the coronavirus pandemic, exactly three years ago, they set up their own business together. The goal: to secure cybersecurity in the OT sector quickly, agilely and at eye level with the team and customers. The three BxC founders still want to keep the number of employees small. Their company philosophy is: quality over quantity. “At BxC Consulting, we attach great importance to employee satisfaction and commitment. This means that everyone can and should not only contribute new ideas. Our rather small size allows us to try out many things and do things differently without losing sight of the big picture or compromising on quality,” emphasizes Combes. <\/p>\n\n

Optimal balance in Hallbergmoos<\/h2>\n\n

BxC Consulting’s quality standards also applied to the choice of location. The choice of the municipality of Hallbergmoos as the company’s headquarters was an easy one. The infrastructural connections to highways and the airport, the wide range of leisure activities on offer and the diversity of companies, some from the manufacturing industry, make Hallbergmoos the ideal location for BxC Consulting. “As a managing director and mother, Hallbergmoos is ideal for seamlessly combining my professional and private roles. I can drop my son off at nursery in the morning and go straight to the office – without the traffic jams or endless waiting for nursery places, like in the city. The location combines the advantages of the city and the countryside.” <\/p>\n\n

Hallbergmoos also offers optimal future potential for BxC in terms of business: in future, even more companies from the manufacturing industry and life sciences are set to settle in the Munich Airport Business Park. The municipality is focusing on pioneering projects such as the HYBRID ONE Immune Office, the iQ space Munich-Hallbergmoos technology campus and the life science cluster in Skygate. <\/p>\n\n

Award-winning consulting<\/h2>\n\n

The optimal working conditions, customer proximity and OT expertise pay off: As a management consultancy for production security, BxC Consulting was honored as a top consultant at the German SME Summit in 2022 and 2023. The three-year-old company sees the two awards as a clear success. This is because BxC was able to win due to the positive customer feedback. “Our consulting services combine customer-oriented engineering knowledge with the necessary sensitivity for production safety. We are delighted with the award, which shows that our customers are very satisfied with our work,” says Combes. <\/p>\n\n
