Just in time for its 30th anniversary, the Mövenpick Hotel in Hallbergmoos shines in new splendor: 143 of the 165 rooms have been renovated. For more freshness, more comfort and to meet the latest standards in terms of hygiene, allergy-friendliness and sustainability. We asked the hotel manager Ulrich Zimmermann about his hotel and obtained interesting information about the new look, the hotel’s special offers and, above all, the role that regionality plays at the Mövenpick Hotel am Flughafen.

Mr. Zimmermann, you have renovated your rooms and bathrooms. What was done and what do the newly designed rooms look like now?
We have completely renovated 143 rooms. We replaced all carpets with new wooden floors, hung new curtains and drapes and completely renovated 99 bathrooms with elegant interiors.
We also offer our guests a very special sleeping experience with state-of-the-art box-spring beds. The new rooms are decorated in warm shades of gray and cream and convey a sense of comfort. A timeless variation, but still stylish and modern, so that you can really feel at home. We have tried – and I think we have succeeded – to convey a certain coziness and the initial reactions from our guests show that we are on the right track.
Some time ago, we implemented our Sleep concept in our premium floor on the 4th floor. For example, guests can adjust the firmness of the so-called Sleep beds themselves, there is even higher quality bed linen and more pillows, you can lie as soft as in a waterbed or very hard, just as you need it. The rooms can be completely darkened and you can mask off all the little annoying lights, for example on the TV, with special stickers. You just need to leave the light on for a short time to be able to see our extras. Because we also have books that explain how to get a good night’s sleep and accompanying teas, sleep masks and, of course, our Mövenpick chocolate selection.

What are the advantages of the conversion?
Our guests can relax in contemporary rooms and of course get an incomparable sleeping experience thanks to the new beds mentioned above. In addition, all the renovated rooms are now allergy-friendly. This is another great advantage that needs to be emphasized: We may be an airport hotel, but we have a very quiet location in Hallbergmoos. And thanks to the renovation and the new blackout facilities, our guests can relax and unwind.
Has the conversion made your hotel barrier-free?
Our hotel is barrier-free anyway, at least as far as the public areas are concerned; the entrance is at ground level, for example. And almost all showers are also barrier-free. There is also a special room for people with major disabilities.
What do you offer your guests in addition to hotel accommodation?
We are very proud of our high quality standards. We cook all the food here ourselves and always fresh. We have a very good, innovative kitchen team and we try to fulfill our guests’ every wish, especially now in the Corona period. In addition to great burgers, we also offer classics such as Züricher Geschnetzeltes. Guests can then enjoy their meals on our beautiful sun terrace in summer or in our winter garden on the last days of fall.

Are there also offers for special groups?
Yes, of course. For allergy sufferers, for example, everything is clearly marked on the menus and at the buffets. Guests can express special allergy-related wishes, which we then try to fulfill. Naturally, vegetarians and vegans are well catered for. For business guests, we have ten conference rooms with modern equipment in which our guests can hold conferences, meetings, seminars and conferences for up to 70 people. All rooms have been recently renovated and are modernly equipped, have natural daylight, can be darkened and are at ground level with their own terrace. We also have a small sauna and a steam bath for relaxation, all included in the room rate.
What role does sustainability play in your hotel?
Sustainability is very important to us. We have the Green Globe label and are also Planet21 certified, so we are double-checked. This starts with avoiding unnecessary packaging and extends to electricity consumption and unusual ideas. What many people don’t know: We now have ten beehives here, which are looked after by a beekeeper. Beforehand, they were carefully tested, even the flight paths (speaking of the airport) are important. So we have our own honey, which our guests can buy.
What role does the topic of regionality play in your company?
Bavarian cuisine is of course very important to us. Our international guests in particular are always delighted with typical regional dishes such as a hearty roast pork or a good Obazda. We prepare everything with regional and seasonal products wherever possible. From asparagus to pumpkins and Christmas geese, we always align our menu with the seasons. For example, our staff like to wear traditional costumes during the Oktoberfest season – a different take on regionality – and this year was no exception. We have an excellent team, for which I am extremely grateful. The team spirit, especially during the coronavirus period, is simply fantastic.
Who are your guests? Do more business travelers or holidaymakers come to you?
We are actually a business hotel, but that changes during the vacation season, when we become more of a vacation hotel and have many guests here from America and the Arab world. But of course we also have travelers who take advantage of our Park, Sleep & Fly offer and leave their car here while they are on vacation. The surrounding companies like to accommodate their visitors here or organize conferences. We also have a special rate for all Hallbergmoos residents and their guests. There is also an early booking discount of 10 percent on the room rate for all those who book at least five days in advance and special offers for weekend guests.
