Fermator: The door opener

Fermator opens doors. Literally. And as currently the largest mono-product manufacturer of automatic elevator doors in the world, the Spanish Fermator Group opened a sales office in Germany back in 2014. Fittingly, at a location that has opened many more doors for Fermator not only in the region, but also – thanks to its proximity to the airport – in the world: in Hallbergmoos. From here, eleven (out of around 1,400 employees worldwide) will soon be responsible for sales and support for the Fermator and, more recently, Sicor brands within the DACH region and the Netherlands. The company has been so successful that it has already had to move to larger premises twice since its launch. “And the next expansion is basically already on the horizon,” says Boris Marjancevic, Sales Manager DACH, explaining the future strategy. “With each stage, the number of colleagues, the size of the warehouse, the showroom and so on grows. And of course we want to take the next steps here too. Because we like Hallbergmoos.” Boris Marjancevic explained to us why this is the case.

What advantages did you expect Hallbergmoos to offer as a location at the time?

On the one hand, good transport connections were of course important. The airport “opposite” enables us to travel efficiently – not only within our sales region, but also regularly within Europe to our production sites. In addition, it is of course an advantage to be located in a region where the elevator industry has a certain concentration. This makes networking a little easier. Existing contacts and relationships as well as the attractive location of Hallbergmoos ultimately tipped the scales in favor of the Munich region.

…and how have they paid off in recent years?

The region’s infrastructure, functioning authorities, well-trained specialists and a unique but open culture have brought us a lot. In addition, the proximity to the airport and the international companies based here ensure that even people without a good knowledge of German receive a good offer. This has been particularly important to us because we have and have had many colleagues from Spain, France, Italy and Poland visiting us. And despite their lack of language skills, they are not at a loss in the bakery, supermarket or restaurant. There are also plenty of accommodation and entertainment options that are easy to reach. Finally, it is also important to note that Hallbergmoos is nowhere near as overcrowded as many other places in the region.

Do you also benefit locally from the proximity to other companies? Are there synergies? Tepper Aufzüge, for example, also has its service branch in Hallbergmoos…

Tepper Aufzüge is one of our most important business partners throughout Germany. We and the Tepper branch in Hallbergmoos naturally benefit from each other if, for example, a spare part is urgently needed. We have also built up good friendships with other companies in the region. But that would have been just as possible elsewhere, of course. Nevertheless, the culture I mentioned earlier contributes to the fact that you can quickly develop a very friendly relationship with each other if you like each other and treat each other properly.
