Global market leader thanks to precision: how Metabolon in Skygate helps to better understand health and disease

600 square meters for real innovation in the field of life sciences: The US company Metabolon has relocated its international headquarters to Hallbergmoos in the Munich Airport Business Park (MABP) in order to benefit above all from the infrastructural advantages of the location and its immediate proximity to the airport. The bright, open and generously designed premises in the Skygate Munich Campus, which the Rock Capital Group has extensively upgraded in recent years, not only guarantee a modern working atmosphere, but also sufficient opportunities to comply with the pandemic-related social distancing requirements, which can be guaranteed at all times despite close cooperation between employees. And something else could turn out to be a real advantage for the location. Pieris Pharmaceuticals, another innovation guarantor in the field of biotechnology, is located in the immediate vicinity. The promotion of mutual synergies could turn the MABP into an efficient center for the so-called life sciences.

With its work in the field of metabolomics, the US company, founded in 2000 and headquartered in North Carolina, is proving to be a real driver of innovation in the booming healthcare sector, and not just because of the coronavirus. As the key to understanding biology, health, well-being and disease, metabolomics is based on the investigation of small molecules, known as metabolites, which provide information about the influence of external and internal factors such as disease, health, nutrition and others on a biological system. “Our Precison Metabolomics™ technology offers biomarker discovery, innovative diagnostic tests and groundbreaking data on genomics and population health. The breadth of applications positions us uniquely in life science research,” says CEO Michael Rasche.

After Corona ensured that some of the relevant work was carried out from home in 2020, the international team, which is constantly growing and on the lookout for new talent, has now moved into quarters in Hallbergmoos to further advance both the commercial side of the company and the laboratory work. The immediate proximity to the airport is a great advantage, as Rasche emphasizes: “We not only receive medical samples here, but also expect regular international customer traffic. And the proximity to the airport was a decisive criterion for us. Another is the proximity to Munich and the associated infrastructure.” And what does the future hold? In addition to important findings in some of the most pressing and complex fields of biosciences, further growth for sure. “By setting up a laboratory and expanding the commercial segment in Hallbergmoos, we are of course also hoping for further synergies with other companies. Due to the increasing number of biotech companies based here, the municipality has the potential to develop into a real life sciences center,” explains Michael Rasche.
