Christmas market in Hallbergmoos: gospel, cool sounds and living tradition

It’s finally time again: on the first weekend of Advent, the Christmas market in Hallbergmoos opens its doors to visitors from Hallbergmoos and all over the world. This year, they can expect more stalls, culinary highlights and two surprises for young and old.

Starting signal for Hallbergmoos Christmas market

For the second time after the forced break due to coronavirus, the Hallbergmoos Christmas market will ring in the festive season in Hallbergmoos on Saturday (4 to 10 pm) and Sunday (1 to 8 pm). “The Christmas market has already taken place well over 20 times in total,” explains Wolfgang Eberhart, 1st Chairman of the “Hallbergmoos in Action” advertising association. The advertising association, which is the sponsor and organizer of the Christmas market, has a total of 84 member businesses.

More visitors expected

Companies and private individuals can apply to the advertising association to rent a stand at the Christmas market. The rush was extremely high this year. Eberhart: “Never before have so many people applied. For the first time in the history of the Christkindlmarkt, we had to draw lots to decide which companies and private individuals would be allowed to run the stalls this year.” The main reason for this is the popularity of the market among the population. According to “Hallbergmoos in Action”, the number of visitors has risen continuously. When asked how many people he expects this year, Eberhart replies: “We had more than 3,000 visitors last year. It would be nice if there were even more this year.”

Bigger, newer and still traditional: the Christmas market in Hallbergmoos

With around 30 stalls, the advertising association hopes to attract even more people to the Christmas market this weekend. Visitors from all over the world are expected. “The market is growing. We had to increase the number of stalls to 30 this year and are still overbooked. But that’s no wonder. Last year we even had a visitor from Berlin who raved about how beautiful it is in Hallbergmoos,” says a delighted Eberhart.

Young and old alike can look forward to two new attractions this year: a children’s carousel and a curling rink. “With the children’s carousel, we also want to meet smaller visitors at eye level. In contrast, the curling rink is somewhat unusual for Bavaria, which is characterized by curling. But we couldn’t find a mobile curling rink, so we had to fall back on the more common variant in Europe,” explains Eberhart.

St. Nicholas will also be visiting again on Saturday and Sunday. It can be assumed that he will also fill his belly with culinary delicacies ranging from hearty to sweet, from crêpes to Balkan specialties to green coal stew. The South Tyrolean partner municipality of Predazzo will also be represented again this year with its own specialties.

Festive spectacle: opening on Saturday

The Christmas market will be officially opened on Saturday at 4 pm by the Mayor of Hallbergmoos, Josef Niedermair. Afterwards, the children of the Kuhler Klang music school will play and sing. They already demonstrated their skills last year and performed at the Advent market. On Sunday, visitors can look forward to the return of Oliver Schott and his gospel choir. The gospel singers will perform at 4 and 6 p.m. with selected songs to get people in the mood for Christmas. “The market, the stalls, the singers – it all goes down very well with the locals. We are very happy about this because the Christmas market always means a special effort for us. “Hallbergmoos in Action” is not a traditional operator. We all work on a voluntary basis. Our aim is to make Hallbergmoos more attractive for residents and businesses. We achieve this every year with the Christmas market,” states Eberhart. Nothing stands in the way of this year’s success.

A living tradition: Every year, Oliver Schott and The Golden Gospel Choir perform at the Christmas market in Hallbergmoos and get visitors in the mood for the contemplative Christmas season with their songs.
