Green electricity for Hallbergmoos: Vispiron Energy is shaping a sustainable future

Just 500 meters from the new Hallbergmoos sensation O2 SURFTOWN MUC , a pioneering ground-mounted photovoltaic project is being built in the Munich Airport Business Park (MABP ) in Hallbergmoos under the direction of Vispiron Energy. Once completed, the solar park will generate 10 megawatts of electricity – enough for the surf park and part of the local population. The future-oriented project combines environmental protection and nature conservation, consumers and investors as well as state-of-the-art technology with natural energy.

Hallbergmoos: From 110 to 500 in just five years

Planning for Vispiron Energy’s photovoltaic park along the S-Bahn line began around five years ago on a small part of a field. The coronavirus pandemic and global challenges have delayed the photovoltaic park. However, the energy crisis, the urge to innovate and the commitment of the municipality of Hallbergmoos have led to the project moving forward. From the originally planned 110 meters to 200 meters in the meantime, the project now has a corridor of 500 meters along the railroad line, as well as fast-charging columns for visitors to O2 SURFTOWN MUC. “The last four years have been characterized by immense changes both locally and globally. We have made good use of the time, realized projects in Asia and gathered a lot of know-how. The result of this process is a project that has become much larger than planned. The successful implementation in a landscape conservation area also shows that environmental protection, nature conservation and impact investing can go hand in hand. This is already our greatest success,” explains Stefan Fußeder, Senior Project Developer at Vispiron Energy.

A sustainable and regional bouquet of services: the Vispiron Group

Vispiron Energy, which specializes in sustainable energy, is part of the owner-managed parent company Vispiron Group. In line with its own vision of “Engineering a better world”, the Vispiron Group offers a range of services relating to mobility, digital transformation and energy – as environmentally friendly as possible. Much has changed in the 20 years that Vispiron has been in existence. However, the company’s energy experts learned their trade in the East. “The German market has changed a lot. In our home state of Bavaria in particular, we used to often find ourselves standing in front of closed town hall doors. In the new federal states, on the other hand, our work was easier as there were more suitable areas there,” explains Georg Westermeier, from Hallbergmoos and head of the maintenance department at Vispiron Energy. The market for sustainable energy is now very large. Even before the energy crisis, a rethink had already begun in Bavaria. “I am very pleased about this because Bavaria – and Hallbergmoos in particular – is my home. Some committed players want to make structural changes here and actively shape the future,” says Westermeier.

Born in Hallbergmoos, Georg Westermeier is head of the maintenance department at Vispiron Energy.

Vispiron Energy World: battery storage, fast-charging stations and electricity for the community

What the transition to sustainable energy generation looks like can soon be seen in Hallbergmoos. Once completed, the photovoltaic system is expected to generate 10 megawatt peak (MWp) of power. Around a third of this will be for O2 SURFTOWN MUC. The rest will be fed into the local power grid. In technical terms, the photovoltaic park will also be state-of-the-art. With bifacial photovoltaic modules, the system will not only capture the sun’s rays from above, but also from below via the reflective environment. Fast-charging stations near the surf park will also enable visitors to quickly recharge their electric car batteries. “The match with O2 SURFTOWN MUC is just perfect. In summer, they can get their electricity purely from us. “We install and operate fast-charging stations in the surf park’s parking lots. That has advantages for everyone,” says Fußeder. In addition, battery storage units will store the energy produced and pass it on when needed.

Operator model and citizen participation

“We don’t just install ground-mounted photovoltaic systems. We see ourselves as operators. That’s why we combine many components in our projects. In Hallbergmoos, we are making our entire range of services visible. The system will be our new flagship project,” explains Westermeier. The sister company CHARGE-V, which is part of the Vispiron Group, is to install the fast-charging stations. “We have now reached a phase of the energy transition that needs to be rethought not only technically, but also in terms of design,” adds Fußeder. It is important to create more options for storing and consuming the energy generated. “We also need to synchronize energy generation and consumption,” continues Fußeder. The citizen participation model, which turns consumers into suppliers, should also help here. “Basically, it helps if the capital comes from the citizens. This turns consumers into suppliers. The citizen participation model allows people to invest money and do good for the environment at the same time. This increases the acceptance of the projects and also helps with the individual decision for green electricity from the socket,” adds Westermeier. Vispiron Energy’s aim is to find new areas for sustainable energy projects and to promote them, particularly in its home region of Bavaria.
